PITTSFIELD
Pittsfield is the largest city in the Berkshires and the county seat of Berkshire County. Its downtown has been revitalized around a core of performing arts venues that anchor the region's year-round cultural calendar.
The Colonial Theatre (Pittsfield), built in 1903 and restored in 2006, is a gilded-age showpiece that hosts national touring acts, concerts, and Berkshire Theatre Group productions. Barrington Stage Company runs two downtown stages and has developed original musicals that went on to Broadway. Phoenix Theatres Beacon Cinema is the city's movie destination.
Pittsfield benefits from the broader Berkshires arts ecosystem — Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, and Mass MoCA are all within a short drive — but the city's own venues hold their own with programming that draws from both the local community and seasonal visitors.
Tip: North Street downtown is the walkable corridor between the Colonial Theatre and Barrington Stage's venues. The Beacon Cinema and restaurants are on the same strip.
