WILLIAMSTOWN
'62 CENTER FOR THEATRE AND DANCE
ABOUT
The '62 Center for Theatre and Dance is a state-of-the-art performing arts facility at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The center features three performance venues: the MainStage (up to 550 seats), a renovated 1940 proscenium theater (up to 250 seats), and CenterStage, a 150-seat flexible flat-floor studio theater. It also includes teaching, rehearsal, and technical spaces.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The center hosts productions by the Williams College Department of Theatre and Department of Dance, student performing ensembles, lectures, intercollegiate festivals, and nationally renowned visiting artists in collaborative residencies with students. The three venues of varying scale allow diverse programming from large-scale productions to experimental and intimate work.
HISTORY
The '62 Center was designed by William Rawn Associates and is named for the Williams College Class of 1962, whose members envisioned the facility and led the fundraising campaign. The center incorporates a 1940-era proscenium theater that was renovated and integrated into the new complex. It is located in Williamstown alongside the Williamstown Theatre Festival and the Clark Art Institute, making the town a significant cultural destination in the northern Berkshires.
