PITTSFIELD

BARRINGTON STAGE COMPANY

ABOUT

Barrington Stage Company (BSC) is a professional nonprofit theater in downtown Pittsfield, Massachusetts, in the Berkshires. The primary performance space is the 520-seat Boyd-Quinson Mainstage at 122 North Street, a renovated 1912 vaudeville theater with a 35-by-28-foot proscenium stage. The company draws over 60,000 attendees annually.

WHAT TO EXPECT

BSC produces a summer season of musicals, plays, and new works, along with educational programming and community events. The Boyd-Quinson Mainstage has 300 orchestra seats and 220 mezzanine seats with state-of-the-art lighting and digital sound. The company also operates smaller performance spaces for cabaret and developmental work.

HISTORY

BSC was co-founded in 1995 by Artistic Director Julianne Boyd and former Managing Director Susan Sperber in Sheffield, Massachusetts. The company purchased the 1912 Pittsfield theater in 2005 and opened the renovated Boyd-Quinson Mainstage in 2006-2007. BSC has expanded its downtown Pittsfield footprint three times. Notable premieres include The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (2004) and American Son (2016), both of which transferred to Broadway.
