ABOUT
Chatham Orpheum Theater is a nonprofit community cinema at 637 Main Street in Chatham, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod. The venue operates two screens with 3D capability, 6.1 SurroundSound audio, and stadium seating (approximately 50 and 160 seats). It is a state-of-the-art cinema dedicated to independent, classic, and first-run film.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Orpheum screens independent, documentary, classic, and mainstream films, and hosts special events and community programming. As a seasonal seaside community venue, the Orpheum serves both year-round residents and Cape Cod's summer visitor population. The theater operates as a nonprofit with a mission to bring quality cinema back to Chatham's Main Street.
HISTORY
The original Orpheum Theater opened in 1916 as Chatham's first and only movie house, operating for 72 years as a destination for generations of families and summer visitors. The theater closed in 1987 and the building was later occupied by a CVS pharmacy. After CVS vacated in November 2011, Naomi M. Turner and a team of volunteer professionals formed Chatham Orpheum Theater, Inc. and raised more than $3.6 million in donations and grants. The restored theater reopened to the public on July 26, 2013.
