SPRINGFIELD
CITYSTAGE
ABOUT
CityStage is an intimate theater complex at 1 Columbus Center in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts, managed by the Springfield Performing Arts Development Corporation. The facility contains the 487-seat Blake Theatre and the 70-seat Winifred Arms Theatre. CityStage is adjacent to Springfield Symphony Hall (capacity 2,611), and both venues are managed by the same organization.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Programming includes music performances, plays, local talent recitals, and community events. The intimate scale of both theaters offers a closer audience experience than the neighboring Symphony Hall. Free parking in an attached garage adds convenience. CityStage serves as a cultural hub for the greater Springfield area.
HISTORY
CityStage is part of the Springfield Municipal Group, a complex of civic buildings that includes Symphony Hall and Springfield City Hall. Symphony Hall was constructed between 1911 and 1913, originally known as "The Auditorium," and was designed in the Greek Revival style. The complex was dedicated by President William Howard Taft in December 1913. CityStage was developed as a more intimate complement to the larger Symphony Hall, providing flexible performance spaces for smaller-scale productions.
