WORCESTER
DCU CENTER
ABOUT
DCU Center is a multi-purpose arena and convention center in downtown Worcester, Massachusetts. The arena currently seats up to 14,800, making it the largest indoor arena in New England outside of Boston. The complex includes the arena and an attached convention center.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The DCU Center hosts major touring concerts, family shows, sporting events, trade shows, and conventions. It is the home arena of the Worcester Railers of the ECHL. The venue's central New England location, approximately 45 miles west of Boston, makes it a key stop for national tours. The arena has hosted events including NCAA basketball tournament games and major concert tours.
HISTORY
The arena opened in September 1982 as the Centrum in Worcester, with a ~12,000-seat capacity and a sold-out Frank Sinatra concert as its first commercial performance. It was expanded to 14,800 seats in 1989 with the addition of 300-level balconies. The facility was renamed Worcester's Centrum Centre in 1997 with a convention center addition, then became the DCU Center in January 2005 when Digital Federal Credit Union acquired naming rights. Major renovations began in 2009.
