EASTHAMPTON
FLYWHEEL ARTS COLLECTIVE
ABOUT
Flywheel Arts Collective is a volunteer-run, DIY nonprofit performance space in Easthampton, governed by consensus and dedicated to cheap or free shows and community events. FLAG: NO PERMANENT VENUE. Flywheel left its longtime home at Old Town Hall (43 Main Street) in December 2020 and currently programs events at various spaces around Western Massachusetts without a fixed location.
WHAT TO EXPECT
When active, expect punk, noise, experimental, and underground music alongside workshops and community events. Flywheel is committed to keeping art accessible and affordable for all. The collective operates on an all-volunteer basis with no paid staff.
HISTORY
Founded in 1998 as the Valley Arts and Music Alliance (VAMA) by Cindy Bow and Helen Harrison, the collective opened its first permanent space on Holyoke Street in March 1999. After eight years there, it relocated to Easthampton's Old Town Hall in April 2010. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the departure from Old Town Hall in 2020, and the organization continues without a permanent home.
