LOWELL MEMORIAL AUDITORIUM
ABOUT
Lowell Memorial Auditorium is a flexible-capacity venue seating between 1,800 and 2,874 on the orchestra level in Lowell, Massachusetts. It is one of the largest performing arts centers in New England. The building's exterior walls bear the names of famous generals and battles, with monuments to subsequent wars on the auditorium's front lawn.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The auditorium hosts touring Broadway productions, concerts, comedy, and community events, managed by Spectacle Live. Flexible seating plans on the orchestra level allow the venue to adapt its configuration for different event types, from intimate seated concerts to large-scale standing shows. The hall also serves as a civic gathering space for the Greater Lowell community.
HISTORY
The Lowell Memorial Auditorium was built in 1922 by the architectural firm of Blackall, Clapp & Whittemore at a cost of approximately $1,000,000. The cornerstone was laid on September 25, 1920, and the building was formally dedicated on September 21, 1922 by Vice President Calvin Coolidge (then former Governor of Massachusetts). It was constructed as a memorial to local veterans of all wars, as proposed by the Lowell Board of Trade following World War I.
