Lyric Stage Company is Boston's oldest resident theater company, located in the YWCA building at 140 Clarendon Street near Copley Square. The intimate 240-seat theater is configured so that no seat is farther than 35 feet from the stage. It operates as a nonprofit organization.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The company presents seven productions each season to an annual audience of over 40,000. Lyric Stage is known for its Stephen Sondheim musical productions and has earned 28 Elliot Norton Awards and 43 Independent Reviewers of New England Awards. The intimate scale creates a close connection between performers and audience.
HISTORY
Lyric Stage Company was founded in 1974 and has operated continuously as Boston's longest-running theater company. The company has built its reputation over five decades through consistent programming of dramas, comedies, and musicals in its Copley Square location.
