MAJESTIC THEATER
ABOUT
Majestic Theater is a community performing arts venue at 131 Elm Street in West Springfield, Massachusetts, housed in a historic former movie palace from the 1920s with a seating capacity of 230. The venue presents professional live theater, music, children's productions, and improv comedy.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Expect locally produced live theater, concerts, special events, children's theater, open mic nights, and improv comedy. The Majestic also offers youth theater workshops including voice, movement, improv, and scene work, along with a summer singing program. A cafe and gallery space are also on-site.
HISTORY
The building opened around 1922 as a movie theater and operated under various names including the Paris Cinema (mid-1960s showing foreign and art films) and the Elm Cinema (around 1984 showing family films). The theater closed around 1988 and remained intact behind offices until The Theater Project transformed it into a live stage theater in 1996, restoring the Majestic name. The venue has produced locally crafted performances since 1997.
