MAYNARD

MAYNARD FINE ARTS THEATRE

PERMANENTLY CLOSED

ABOUT

Maynard Fine Arts Theatre is a 3-screen independently owned art house cinema located at 19 Summer Street in Maynard, Massachusetts. The theater has a total seating capacity of approximately 655 seats across its three auditoriums. It is situated in Maynard's downtown district.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Programming includes first-run films, art house, independent, foreign, and retro movies. All three screening rooms have digital projection. The theater maintains a vintage feel with updated amenities, offering an alternative to nearby megaplexes in the MetroWest area.

HISTORY

The building was originally constructed as a livery stable in 1897, later converted to a garage. It opened as a cinema on June 29, 1949 with an original seating capacity of 425 seats, screening the ballet film "The Red Shoes." In the 1970s, the theater focused primarily on foreign and independent films. It was closed for renovation in 2013 and reopened in fall 2014 with digital projection. Following owner Steve Trumble's unexpected death in March 2021, the theater was closed until new owners reopened it in 2022.
