NANTUCKET DREAMLAND
ABOUT
Nantucket Dreamland is a nonprofit performing arts center at 17 South Water Street in Nantucket, Massachusetts. The complex features a 314-seat Main Theater, a flexible Studio Theater, and the Harborview Room with harbor views. The venue operates as Nantucket's primary cultural center for film, music, theater, and community events.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Programming includes independent and world cinema screenings, live concerts, theatrical productions, comedy, and community gatherings. The Main Theater and Studio Theater offer flexible configurations for different event types. The Dreamland functions as a year-round cultural hub for the island community.
HISTORY
The building was originally constructed in 1832 as a Quaker meetinghouse and also hosted meetings in support of abolition. It later housed a hat factory and roller skating rink before being floated across the harbor to its present location in 1906 and reopened as a moving picture show. Renamed the Dreamland Theatre in 1911, it served as Nantucket's primary entertainment venue for over 80 years. The nonprofit Dreamland Foundation purchased the building in 2007 and completed a full renovation, reopening in June 2012 as a performing arts center.
