BOSTON
ORPHEUM THEATRE
ABOUT
The Orpheum Theatre is a 2,700-seat concert venue at 1 Hamilton Place in downtown Boston, located just off Tremont Street near the Park Street T station. The theater operates primarily as a live music and comedy venue booked by Live Nation.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Expect a classic, steep-balcony theater with a general admission floor and tiered balcony seating. The room has a reputation for strong acoustics in a historic setting, and the programming runs heavily toward rock, indie, electronic, hip-hop, and comedy touring acts.
HISTORY
The building was constructed in 1852 as the Boston Music Hall, serving as the original home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1880. It was converted to a vaudeville house in 1900, renamed the Orpheum Theatre in 1906, and rebuilt by Marcus Loew in 1915 to its current 2,700-seat configuration. The venue reopened as a concert hall in 1971 and was renovated again in 2009.
