NORTH TRURO
PAYOMET PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
ABOUT
Payomet Performing Arts Center is a nonprofit seasonal performing arts venue located on 110 acres at the Cape Cod National Seashore's Highland Center in North Truro, Massachusetts. The main venue is a large fabric tent that accommodates 850 to 900 with risers for concerts, or 300-400 with table seating for smaller shows. The venue operates May through October on former military land within the National Seashore.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Programming includes concerts spanning folk, rock, jazz, and world music, alongside theater, circus arts, comedy, and children's programs. The open-air tent setting provides a distinctive atmosphere for performances. Past headliners have included Arlo Guthrie, Aimee Mann, Blue Oyster Cult, The Wailers, Graham Nash, and Rosanne Cash.
HISTORY
Payomet was formed in 1998 and began presenting performances at the North Truro site in 2006. The venue sits on the grounds of the former North Truro Air Force Station, a Cold War radar installation that operated from 1951 to 1985 before being decommissioned and transferred to the Cape Cod National Seashore. The organization operates in partnership with the National Park Service.
