ABOUT

Symphony Hall is a 2,611-seat performance venue in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts, part of the architecturally significant Springfield Municipal Group. The hall is known for its Greek Revival architecture and excellent acoustics. It sits beside an ornate 300-foot-tall Italianate Campanile and the city's Greek Revival City Hall.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Symphony Hall hosts concerts, touring productions, and community events. It is the primary performance venue of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra. The hall's large capacity and period architecture make it one of the largest traditional concert halls in western Massachusetts. Programming spans classical, popular music, comedy, and theatrical productions.

HISTORY

The hall was constructed between 1911 and 1913 as part of the Springfield Municipal Complex, originally known as "The Auditorium." The complex was dedicated by President William Howard Taft in December 1913. The venue was renamed Symphony Hall in the 1940s after becoming the primary home of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra. It was rededicated in 1980 and underwent an extensive renovation in fall 2004. The hall originally seated over 1,000 more people than its current capacity, reduced through renovations to meet modern seating standards.
