BOSTON
THE WILBUR
ABOUT
The Wilbur is a 1,093-seat (up to 1,200 standing) performing arts venue at 246 Tremont Street in Boston's Theatre District. The theater has become one of the premier comedy venues in the Northeast, while also hosting live music, podcasts, and special events.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Expect an intimate, cabaret-style theater experience with removable main-floor tables and chairs that can convert to general admission standing room. The balcony provides traditional theater seating. Programming skews heavily toward nationally touring stand-up comedians, with music and podcast tapings filling the schedule.
HISTORY
The Wilbur opened in 1914, designed by architect Clarence Blackall for the Shubert brothers and named for theatrical producer A.L. Wilbur. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and designated a Boston Landmark in 1987. Bill Blumenreich revitalized the venue in 2008 with a 20-year lease, refocusing it on comedy.
