WannaGoSee — Live Music in New England

new england's live music guide

WORCESTER

Worcester is the second-largest city in New England and the hub of central Massachusetts. Its downtown has undergone significant revitalization, and the live music infrastructure reflects both the city's industrial history and its cultural ambitions.

The DCU Center is the arena-scale anchor, hosting major tours and events. Mechanics Hall, built in 1857, is widely regarded as one of the finest acoustic halls in the country and programs classical, jazz, and select popular acts. The Hanover Theatre draws over 196,000 patrons annually with a full calendar of touring shows. The Palladium is the hard rock and metal destination, with a 2,000-capacity main room and a smaller upstairs space. Electric Haze, Off The Rails, and Jean McDonough Arts Center fill the mid-size and small-venue tiers. Prior Performing Arts Center at the College of the Holy Cross adds a campus venue to the mix.

Worcester's scene is unpretentious and affordable. The Palladium draws dedicated heavy music fans from across New England, while Mechanics Hall attracts classical purists. Downtown's growing restaurant and brewery corridor means you can make a full evening of dinner and a show without driving between stops.

Tip: Downtown Worcester is walkable between most venues. Mechanics Hall and The Hanover Theatre are blocks apart. The Palladium is slightly north of downtown — check their calendar for all-ages matinee shows.
