COHASSET
SOUTH SHORE MUSIC CIRCUS
ABOUT
South Shore Music Circus is a 2,300-seat tent theater-in-the-round at 130 Sohier Street in Cohasset, Massachusetts. It is one of only two continuously operated tent theaters in the round in the United States, with every seat within 50 feet of the central stage.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Expect an intimate, unique summer concert experience under a tent canopy with a rotating center stage. The circular seating arrangement means there are no bad seats, and the close proximity to performers creates an unusually personal atmosphere for a venue of this size. The season runs from June through September.
HISTORY
The South Shore Music Circus traces its roots to 1932 when Raymond Moore began staging summer theater in Cohasset's town hall. The tent venue opened on June 25, 1951 with a production of Show Boat, initially seating 1,000. It is operated by the South Shore Playhouse Associates, a nonprofit incorporated in 1950.
