CLUB PASSIM
ABOUT
Club Passim is a nonprofit folk music venue in Harvard Square at 47 Palmer Street, operating as one of the oldest and most influential folk clubs in the country. The intimate basement room hosts seated concerts in a listening-room format with no bar service during performances.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Expect acoustic and folk-rooted music in a quiet, attentive setting. The venue functions as a nonprofit with an associated school of music offering workshops and classes. Shows span folk, Americana, singer-songwriter, and roots genres.
HISTORY
Originally opened as Club 47 in 1958, the venue was a cornerstone of the 1960s folk revival, hosting early performances by Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and Tom Rush. It moved to Palmer Street in 1963, was renamed Passim in 1969, and incorporated as a nonprofit in 1994.
