PLOUGH & STARS

Updated

ABOUT

The Plough & Stars is an Irish pub at 912 Massachusetts Avenue, between Harvard and Central Squares, with a capacity of roughly 45 people. It is one of the smallest live music venues in the Cambridge area.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Expect folk, roots, bluegrass, and traditional Irish music in a cozy, pub-atmosphere room where audiences sit close to performers. Live music runs Tuesday and Thursday through Sunday, with weekend afternoons from 4-6pm and late-night sets starting at 10:30pm. Sunday through Thursday shows are free; Friday and Saturday carry a $5 cover. All shows are 21-plus.

HISTORY

Founded in 1969 by brothers Peter and Padraig O'Malley, the pub is named after the Sean O'Casey play of the same name. It has operated continuously for over five decades as a neighborhood institution for live music and Irish pub culture.
