ABOUT

Sanders Theatre is a 1,000-seat performance hall inside Memorial Hall at Harvard University, located at 45 Quincy Street. The theater features a distinctive 180-degree semicircular design inspired by Christopher Wren's Sheldonian Theatre, placing every seat in close proximity to the stage.

HISTORY

Sanders Theatre was completed in 1875 and first used for Harvard's 1876 commencement. It was funded by a bequest from Charles Sanders (class of 1802). The hall is a member of the League of Historic American Theatres and has hosted speakers including Winston Churchill, Theodore Roosevelt, and Martin Luther King Jr.
