CAMBRIDGE
THE MAD MONKFISH
ABOUT
The Mad Monkfish is a sushi and Asian fusion restaurant at 524 Massachusetts Avenue in Central Square, between MIT and Harvard. The restaurant features a dedicated performance space called the Jazz Baroness Room with a small stage.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Expect live jazz Thursday through Sunday evenings, with performances running 7pm-10pm and seatings at 6:30pm and 8:30pm. There is a $5 cover for the Jazz Baroness Room. The menu offers sushi, sashimi, and dishes drawing from Japanese, Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese cuisines.
HISTORY
The restaurant originally operated as "Thelonious Monkfish", combining a jazz pun with its seafood focus. The name was later changed to The Mad Monkfish out of respect for the Thelonious Monk Estate. The Jazz Baroness Room maintains the venue's connection to jazz culture.
