LEBANON
Lebanon is the only city in Grafton County and serves as the commercial center of the Upper Valley region along the Connecticut River. It sits just south of Hanover and provides a more workaday counterpart to the college-town atmosphere next door.
The Lebanon Opera House is an 803-seat performing arts venue originally built in 1924 as part of the city's municipal building. It programs Broadway tours, orchestral performances, comedy, dance, and community theater. Opera North, a professional opera company based in the Upper Valley, stages productions here and at other regional venues.
Lebanon is a practical city that does not trade on charm the way Hanover does, but the Opera House gives it a performance venue with serious capacity and programming. The audience draws from the entire Upper Valley, including Vermont towns across the river. Free parking near the Lebanon Green makes access easy.
Tip: The Lebanon Opera House is the large red brick building with a clock tower on the north side of Colburn Park (the Lebanon Green). Free parking is available in the immediate area.
