LACONIA
COLONIAL THEATRE LACONIA
ABOUT
The Colonial Theatre is a 761-seat theater in Laconia, New Hampshire, designed by architect George I. Griffin. The venue is located in downtown Laconia in the Lakes Region and is managed by Spectacle Live. It is home to the Powerhouse Theatre Collaborative.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Colonial hosts a range of music, theater, comedy, and civic events. The renovated space provides a modern audience experience within a historic setting. The theater serves as a cultural anchor for Laconia's downtown revival.
HISTORY
The Colonial Theatre originally opened in 1914 (some sources cite 1915) with 1,231 seats. Original owner Benjamin Piscopo, from Venice, Italy, commissioned a fire curtain depicting Venice as seen from the water. The theater closed in August 2002 after 87 years of operation and sat vacant for over a decade. Restoration began in March 2016, and the theater reopened in August 2021 with a reduced capacity of 761 seats.
