LINCOLN
JEAN'S PLAYHOUSE
ABOUT
Jean's Playhouse is a 260-seat year-round professional theater located in Lincoln, New Hampshire, approximately two hours from Boston in the White Mountains. The venue is operated by the North Country Center for the Arts (NCCA), a nonprofit arts organization.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Programming includes professionally produced musicals, plays, live music, comedy, and seasonal events. The theater also runs youth education programs and summer camps. The venue serves as a cultural anchor for the surrounding tourist region.
HISTORY
NCCA was officially formed in 1986 and launched its first production under a tent at the Mill at Loon Mountain. In 1987, the organization transformed the old paper mill in Lincoln — closed since 1980 — into the Papermill Theatre. After the mill was demolished following a final season in 2009, the company performed at the Governor's Lodge at Loon Mountain for two transitional seasons. Jean's Playhouse opened in July 2012, named for longtime supporters Bill and Jean Hallager. The summer 2025 season was the highest-grossing in the theater's history.
