LEBANON OPERA HOUSE
ABOUT
Lebanon Opera House is a historic 800-seat performing arts center located at 51 North Park Street in Lebanon, New Hampshire. It is the only community-based theater of its size in west-central New Hampshire and serves as the cultural focal point of the Upper Valley region.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Programming includes touring national acts, comedy, community theater, concerts, and educational events. The venue operates year-round as a fully renovated performing arts facility presenting a range of entertainment from music to spoken word.
HISTORY
The building was constructed in 1924 and originally served as a vaudeville theater, community gathering place, and city hall. In 1951, it was converted into a movie theater with new seats and a Wurlitzer Theatre Organ. The movie theater closed in 1969, and for years the space was used primarily for high school musicals. In 1991, the City Council established the Lebanon Opera House Improvement Corporation, a nonprofit, to manage the facility. A major renovation in 2001 refurbished the theater and expanded backstage areas, funded by more than 1,000 donors who raised over $700,000.
