HANOVER
NUGGET THEATERS
ABOUT
Nugget Theaters is a 4-screen independent movie theater located at 57 South Main Street in Hanover, New Hampshire, adjacent to Dartmouth College. The theater shows a mix of first-run and independent films.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Expect current Hollywood releases alongside art-house and foreign-language films in a traditional downtown cinema setting. The theater has served as a cultural gathering point for the Dartmouth community and Upper Valley region for over a century.
HISTORY
The Nugget opened on September 13, 1916, with a screening of "The Alien" starring George Beban. Permission to build the theater was granted to F.W. and F.F. Davison in April 1916. In July 1922, the Davisons donated the business to the Town of Hanover, with net proceeds directed toward town improvements, and the Hanover Improvement Society was formed to operate it. Original capacity was 571 seats, expanded to 616 in 1927. It became a twin-screen theater in 1972 and was enlarged to four screens on May 25, 1997.
