ABOUT
The Strand is a nonprofit performing arts and entertainment venue at 20 Third Street in downtown Dover, New Hampshire. The 280-capacity space occupies a century-old former movie theater and hosts live theatre, concerts, movies, comedy, and dance events. It was approved as a 501(c)(3) in 2017.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Programming spans multiple genres and formats, with most shows on Friday and Saturday nights. The venue books concerts, theatrical productions, comedy acts, burlesque, karaoke, and private events in a classic old-school theater setting with orchestra-level seating.
HISTORY
The Strand Theater originally opened on September 22, 1919 with a seating capacity of 900 across orchestra and balcony levels. It operated as a movie house under several chains including Paramount Pictures and Spinelli Cinemas before closing in 2009. After a stint as a church, it reopened in August 2015 as a performing arts venue. It is the third-oldest operating theater in New Hampshire.
