WHITEFIELD
Whitefield is a small town in Coos County along Route 3 in the northern White Mountains. Since 1966, it has been home to a professional repertory theater that brings Broadway-caliber productions to one of the most remote performance venues in New Hampshire.
Weathervane Theatre is an award-winning professional theater that performs in alternating repertory throughout the summer, meaning a different show runs each night of the week. The 250-seat auditorium has no obstructed views and no seat more than 40 feet from the stage. The current building dates to 2002 after a fire destroyed the original converted barn.
Whitefield is genuinely remote, and the Weathervane Theatre exists because of artistic commitment rather than a large local audience. Visitors come specifically for the theater, often combining it with a White Mountains vacation. The alternating repertory format lets you see multiple shows in a single visit.
Tip: The Weathervane Theatre is on Route 3 in Whitefield. The summer season is when the full repertory runs. Plan ahead if you want to see specific shows.
