LACONIA

PITMAN'S FREIGHT ROOM

PERMANENTLY CLOSED

ABOUT

Pitman's Freight Room is a live music and event venue at 94 New Salem Street in Laconia, New Hampshire. The space is housed in a former freight depot built in 1890 by Pitman Manufacturing, one of the largest hosiery manufacturers in the state. The venue can accommodate 200+ guests banquet-seated, or 150 guests with the full dance floor in use.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Programming focuses on jazz, blues, folk, and acoustic music. The New Hampshire Jazz Center produces shows every Thursday evening with musicians from across the Northeast including Boston and New York City. Seating is general admission with doors at 7:15 PM, and the venue is BYOB. A five-sided hickory dance floor is a centerpiece of the room.

HISTORY

The freight depot was built in 1890 as a track-side facility for Pitman Manufacturing of Laconia. It was sold in the 1940s and operated as an antique store until 2009, when renovations including a new insulated roof, heating system, complete re-wiring, a third bathroom, kitchen, and the hickory dance floor were completed to convert it into a music venue.

ABOUT

Pitman's Freight Room permanently closed in March 2021. The owner cited pandemic-era difficulties and fractional ticket sales after attempted reopenings. The historic 1890 freight depot had operated as a performance venue since 2009.
